Description
The Angelin, scientifically known as Andira inermis, is a remarkable tree species belonging to the Fabaceae family. Originating from a diverse geographic range, the Angelin can be found spanning from Mexico all the way through Tropical America, and extending into the western parts of Tropical Africa to the eastern regions up to Uganda.
First described in the early 19th century, this tree was recorded in “Prodr. 2: 475” in 1825 and accredited to its author, (W. Wright) DC. This historical classification highlights its long-standing recognition in the scientific community. The tree itself is notable for its robust presence in tropical climates.
Andira inermis is prized for its hardiness and the utility of its wood. In various regions where it is indigenous, the wood is used for a multitude of purposes, highlighting its economic importance. Its utility is further complemented by the tree’s ability to thrive in diverse environmental conditions, making it a versatile species within its habitat range.
Its ecological role is equally significant, as it provides habitat and resources for various wildlife species within tropical ecosystems. The Angelin’s adaptability also plays a crucial role in soil stabilization and the promotion of biodiversity in the regions it inhabits.
Thus, Andira inermis, or Angelin, is not just a botanical specimen of interest due to its wide geographic distribution, but also for its considerable ecological and economic value.
